The Hidden Cost Of Waiting

Many companies I talk to balk at the price of hiring a professional to help them with their marketing.  It just seems too expensive.  They say that they totally understand the need for our services and will use us when they have the cashflow to invest in our services.

I totally understand.  As a business owner I too have to deal with the reality that I don’t have enough money to invest in all the services, expertise, and technologies that I know would help my business.  But having said that, marketing isn’t overhead.  It’s not.  Really.  It’s time business owners came to this realization.  Let me say it again, marketing is not overhead.  It’s the engine that integrates with sales to drive your business forward to profitability and growth.

Some of you are probably on board, but a few of you are saying – prove it Ian.  Well that’s not easy to do. It would be great if we could do A/B testing with your business like we do with our landing pages and email campaigns.  You know what I mean?  We’d split your business down the centre and run it without marketing and sales integration, and the other half would run with marketing.  Without a shadow of a doubt I would guarantee that the business B would perform better.  How can I say that?  Easy.  I’ve seen it and so have Certified Duct Tape Marketing Consultants around the globe.

Now don’t get me wrong, if you just spend money on a new website or throw money at online advertising you may not see much better results.  But that’s not what I’m talking about.  That’s not what Outsourced Marketing offers.  We implement a marketing system into businesses that takes a strategic and systematic approach to your marketing.  It integrates everything from your website, social media presence(s), email marketing, offline advertising, SEO and a host of other activities.  When everything is working in unison towards the same business goals you’d be astounded by the results.

What's The Hidden Cost of Waiting?

It’s HUGE!

So going back to the topic we started with, what’s the hidden cost of waiting?  It can be huge.  It would be ok to wait if your business lived in a vacuum, but it doesn’t.  Your competition is never standing still.  They are striving and strategizing every day to steal your prospects from you in order to grow their marketshare.  Expenses increase each year.  But the greatest loss to your business is momentum and lost opportunity.

You probably have recognized, as I have, that business is a momentum game – just like sports.  Each victory, each landed job, each satisfied customer, each blog post, each visitor to your website, each testimonial, each content piece all contribute to tomorrow’s success.  Its like the old adage that ‘You Reap What You Sow’.  The marketing seeds we sow today are the crops of our businesses’ future.

So stop incurring the hidden cost of waiting.  If you can’t afford to do it all, then don’t.  But don’t let that stop you from hiring those with the expertise to do something and do it really well.  You won’t regret it.  But when you hire someone, make sure they are strategically focused and understand the whole picture, not just one marketing component.

Get sowing!  Your future counts on it.
